FAQ
The Atlanta Submission Series utilizes the EBI (Eddie Bravo Invitational) ruleset. More can be found here - https://ebiofficial.com/rules/
The regular season is a series of exhibition matches to determine seeding in our post-season, single elimination tournament. The teams who accumulate the most points will have the highest seeding. Points are earned by having teammates left standing at the end of a match. For example: two quartets face off. The winning team subs all the losing team’s members, leaving the losing team with zero members left standing and zero points. The winning team only went through two of their participants, so they have two team members left standing at the end: giving them two points. If the first member of the quartet subs all four of the other team’s members, then the winning team will earn four points for the match.
For the beginner and tier 1 divisions, two grapplers will have five minutes to secure a submission. If neither grappler can, then both grapplers will be sent out and the next two will come in to face off. The tier 2 and champion’s divisions will have six minute matches.
If regulation time ends and there isn’t a sub between the two grapplers facing off, then both grapplers are out and the next two begin competing. If both teams are down to their last member, and neither can get a sub in regulation time, then both teams will pick one member to represent them in OT. From there, it will be a duel to see who can get the fastest sub starting from back mount.
Depending on the division you register for, teams will consist of either three or four grapplers. The order in which your team competes is totally up to you. The first two grapplers square off, the winner stays in, and the last team standing walks away with the W.
The ASS will kick off season one on July 20 th . From there, we will be running two (maybe more if participation exceeds expectations) FULL back-to-back weekends. We will be having matches Saturday AND Sunday for those first two weeks. Those matches will determine team seeding. After the seeding has been established, we will have an end of season break, then teams will come back and participate in a single elimination, winner take all tournament. All scheduling will be coordinated through LeagueApps (which also has a mobile app for athlete convenience).
All registrations will run through LeagueApps (there is a mobile app as well). Team captains will have the opportunity to go in and set up teams. From there, the captain can send out email invitations for others to join their team, or they can have their team mates manually register. If you don’t have a full team, or any team at all, no problem either! Individuals can register as free agents and team captains can pick up free agents if they need to fill slots. We will also be making free agent teams if there are stragglers before we finalize registration.
For our first two weeks, we will be running an early bid registration special - $160 per person for the season. After that period ends, the next two weeks will be $180 per person for the season. Once the initial first four weeks have passed, late registration will cost $200 per person. Note: all registrations include a FREE custom Atlanta Submission Series Rashguard designed and made by Nation Athletic and a chance to walk away with some cash.
Every one of our four skill divisions will have two weight classes. One weight class for a team with an average member weight of under 175 lbs and one weight class for teams with an average weight of over 175 lbs. The skill levels break down as follows: Beginners (three man teams) division is designed for white belts with under a year of GRAPPLING EXPERIENCE. This includes wrestling, judo, sambo, Turkish oil wrestling, etc. Tier 1 (quartets) is an intermediate division. This is for more advanced white belts and blue belts. Tier 2 (quartets) is our advanced division. This is for purple through black (and any ambitious lower belts who want to challenge themselves). Finally, our Champions Division (three man teams) is for pro athletes or athletes looking to go pro. ADCC veterans, PGF veterans, guys who run the pro circuits, etc. NOTE: If we have divisions without a lot of participation, we reserve the right to condense weight classes.
Easy, people want to win money and gain exposure. Our payouts for beginners will be smaller than Tier 1. Tier 1 payouts are smaller than Tier 2, and our Champions payouts will be highest of all.
If you’re a good competitor, you’re shooting yourself in the foot by chasing a much smaller pay day. And if that isn’t enough, we know most of you guys. If we see anyone we know is trying to sandbag, WE WILL MOVE YOU.
This is TBD for season one, but we will keep you all updated. We are still fundraising and acquiring sponsors, and all of that is going to the winning athletes. Once we know how big our pool is, we’ll be announcing numbers. While we don’t expect season one to produce any life altering purses, we are hoping to gain some initial traction with the league’s popularity to attract higher sponsor payouts. All of you can help with this by sharing our info, following our social media, and connecting us with any potential sponsors we may not have thought to reach out to.
The ASS is planning on running a summer season and winter season every year moving forward. In addition to that, we are also working with local sponsors and venues to put together some team and individual superfight nights in between our seasons. Stay tuned for more exciting competition opportunities, and continue to follow us to stay up to date on all new developments.
YES! Please reach out to us via our contact section or via social media with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. We want this to be about you guys more than it is about us, so we will be very active in adjusting what we do to better suit the needs of the athletes.
For our first season, we are expecting around 100-150 athletes, all with an average of roughly 750 social media followers (some with up to 10K), in total to participate from over a dozen gyms across the city.
In addition to hosting in-person events, we will also be streaming the events and promoting them heavily on social media. On top of this, we will be offering our competitors custom uniforms that will feature all of our sponsors as well.
What we are offering you is an entire season of live advertising for our sponsors with an actively engaged local audience, and we will be utilizing those proceeds to offer our winning competitors cash prize bundles.
All sponsorship packages include access to our events and social media marketing. However, where they differ is real estate on our custom rashguards worn by all competitors. The higher the tier, the more prominently you can expect for your logo to be featured on our custom fight kit!
